About the Artist
Jens Lerback spent his formative years in the tropical beauty of Hawaii. Throughout his childhood he often spent afternoons watching artists John Paul Thomas, Jenner Baden and James (Wittlig) Warren paint scenes of the quaint villages and the cultural lifestyle that are now part of Hawaii’s bygone days. He believes that time has had an enormous effect on the fragile nature of both.
Jens derives his inspiration from his surroundings, painting on location and in his studio. His style captures his mood and emotions, evoked by dramatic landscapes, seascapes and flora. He tries to represent the colors he sees, but often accentuates certain colors to convey the feeling of a particular scene. The combination of confident brushwork, dynamic compositions and lively color invokes true character in his work. In his paintings, he strives to share his view of this beautiful and fragile planet with you. He believes that his artistic success is largely measured by the power of the observer’s emotional connection to the work, and to what it represents.
Jens received his professional degree in architecture from the University of Oregon. He is a practicing architect and illustrator but spends much of his free time painting in oils and watercolors. He resides in Salem, Oregon with his wife Rebecca.
